The mission of the California State PTA is to positively impact the lives of children and families by supporting them with skills in advocacy, leadership, and communication.
- California State PTA Board of Managers Purpose of PTA MembershipThe Santa Monica Malibu Council of PTAs and individual PTAs in our district positively impact the lives of children and families in a myriad of ways. This year, in addition to helping pass a school funding measure that directly benefits all of our children, PTA Council has been involved in advocating the State of California to oppose budget cuts that will harm our children. We have worked on district-wide communications and community involvement efforts, Special Education, safety and emergency preparedness, literacy and reading intervention issues, equity issues, parent education, and much, much more. In addition, PTA provides support at school sites with events, programs, emergencies, daily operations, and fundraising, which is an ever-present necessity in a state that funds education near the bottom of all states nationally.PTA is the single strongest grass roots advocacy organization in America, with more than 1,000,000 members. However, PTA¹s charter does not allow us to advocate for or against individuals, which means that advocacy for individuals in candidate elections or personnel issues needs to be done by another organization. I would like to invite anyone who is interested in the work of our Santa Monica Malibu PTA to visit our website, www.smmpta.org. In addition, please visit your individual school site websites for information about those PTAs. Obviously our efforts can not please everyone, but I know that our advocacy provides a lifeline to students and families in our district. For those who aren¹t directly involved now, please work with us directly. Our doors are always open. How Your Dues Are UsedYour dues make possible all the State, National and District activities that affect the welfare of virtually all children throughout our entire land. They also help supply the materials which the officers and members of your unit need to become better informed and efficient Parent-Teacher workers. National PTA $2.25 Membership Summary
