Once you get your sign home, take a fun pic of your display and send it to us at SMMPTAS@gmail.com so we can post it on our website and social media to encourage our teachers.

Santa Monica-Malibu PTA Council, as the umbrella body of all our SMMUSD PTAs and PTSAs, is acutely aware of the variety of opinions expressed by parents and caregivers regarding how our schools have operated over the past year, and how they should move forward. Reasonable minds can differ, but what we have in common is a commitment to education, and an appreciation for those who have dedicated their professional lives to educating our young people. As we are poised to transition our resilient students back to in-person learning over the next weeks and months, we look forward with optimism and hope. We want to instill in our children gratitude and empathy, even while we acknowledge that families have also experienced unique challenges in this season. Our teachers and staff members are friends, colleagues, parents, sons, daughters, and, most importantly, members of our community. We acknowledge that they have worked through the pandemic in a manner previously unknown to them, with upended personal lives, and in isolation away from supportive colleagues. We want to express our deepest gratitude for their work, and share that gratitude with our children. We encourage parents to remain engaged. PTA meetings and Community Conversations at your school site offer reliable, up-to-the minute information from your school leadership. There may be disagreements as we move toward reopening, but still we move forward together with empathy and gratitude for the teachers and staff of SMMUSD.

The SMMUSD Council of PTAs wishes to remind you that this year it is especially important for you to protect yourself and your family against the seasonal flu. The CDC has helpful information regarding seasonal flu on their website. You can click on these links for more information in English or Spanish. PDF

SMMUSD has been posting information about school reopening on their website and twitter. Please check the "what's happening" section of your school's website.
