PTA Advocacy: Part of Our History. Part of Our Mission.

Since 1897, PTA has brought families together to advocate for children’s education, health, safety, and well-being.

PTA is about much more than fundraising. We support our schools through classroom resources, enrichment programs, family engagement, community building, and advocacy for policies that benefit all children.

Nonpartisan. Not neutral.

PTA does not endorse political candidates or parties. But we do take positions on issues that affect children, families, and public education. Advocacy—including legislative advocacy and lobbying—is an important part of our mission.

Locally, the Santa Monica–Malibu Council of PTAs brings together 13 school PTAs to support our school communities, strengthen our local PTAs, and advocate for students.

When Council considers taking a position on a local issue, we follow a thoughtful, member-driven process that includes research, discussion, and representative voting.

Advocacy in action: This November, PTA is putting that mission into practice at both the local and statewide levels.

Following a comprehensive legislative study, our Council Association voted to support Measure ES, which would provide a stable, reliable source of funding for SMMUSD schools.

At the state level, California State PTA has adopted positions on eight propositions on the November 3 ballot, including support for Proposition 3, which would maintain funding for public education and health care, and opposition to Proposition 39, which would impose additional voter identification requirements.

These positions reflect PTA’s longstanding commitment to public education, the well-being of children and families, and ensuring that every voice can be heard.

Whether we’re supporting families, strengthening school communities, or speaking up for policies that benefit students, our purpose remains the same: Every child. One voice.
